Responding to the news that a new £1 million joint research initiative to tackle water quality issues in the River Wye will be established by the UK and Welsh governments, local Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe David Chadwick said:

“This is a fantastic first step for the long-running campaign to clean up the River Wye and something the local Liberal Democrats have long called for.

“For far too long, this national treasure has been pumped full of pollution with local wildlife and the local economy paying the price.

“Jane Dodds MS and I will continue to hold both governments accountable for cleaning up the Wye.

“Increased research and monitoring need to be backed by concrete enforcement action to clamp down on polluters right along the course of the river and its tributaries”
